OUR HISTORY IN RACE UNICYCLING STARTS IN 2011

First we studied how to interface hub and cranks, keeping the distance between these two elements as narrow as possible. Why? Because when you push on the pedals, you push both forward and laterally, from outside towards the center of the wheel. The wider the distance between pedal and pedal, the higher the dissipation of strength. This causes the unicycle to wave more and more as the rider starts moving. The ISIS interface requires cranks about 27mm thick. The square hub should have a similar width. This was our starting point. Taking this concept into consideration, we developed a Short-Pin interface, which is 7mm narrower than the solution mentioned above. In this way, the strength we put on the pedals will be mostly used to move our unicycle forward, reducing the waving. First we developed the 5-Pin interface. After various tests we decided to go for the 6-Short-Pin solution, which is the one mounted on the wheels used by Seisuke Kobayashi for the 2012’s World Records in Bressanone. This helped us understand that in order to keep high frequency in our pedaling (and therefore high speed!), we have to take care of two main points: stiffness and rim weight. So we developed the new frame, available in two lengths. We deliberately focused on stiffness rather than on lightness. Also the XXL seatpost and the 3Bold Clamp both ensure exceptional rigidity. Thanks to the short or the long Handle Saddle the rider can use both hands, keeping the elbows close to his hips. In this way, the rigidity of the “Unicycle-Pilot Assembly" skyrockets, offering faster, more stable riding. The 2018’s version features a rim that is 30mm thick (for greater rigidity) and 25mm wide (we have noticed, that in this way the tire has a wider and rounder shape and it is more stable when curving).

ALL MAD4ONE RACE UNICYCLES COMPLY WITH THE IUF 24" CLASS

A few words about the "24 Unicycle Class" according to the IUF Rulebook. The IUF Rulebook (read chapter 2B.2 of the “2019 Competitor Rules”) does not specify the size of the tire, it refers only to "the tire diameter range"  allowed, that is,  the diameter of the entire wheel including the tire. As regards the 24 Class it says that "....the diameter range must be more than 518mm - 618mm and the cranks must be at least 125mm long...".

The MAD-RACE 24” has a wheel-diameter, including the tire, of 606mm.

The MAD-RACE 26” has a wheel-diameter, including the tire, of 616mm.

Therefore all MAD-RACE unicycles (24" and 26" wheel) comply with the IUF 24" Class.

There may be some variations due to the tire pressure.

THE SECOND WHEEL, PERFECT FOR RAIN – IUF SLALOM – WHEEL WALK

Weather can change over the course of a race or a race weekend. Since track racing is an outdoor sport practiced in all seasons, you may encounter inclement weather. Be prepared. Rain, wind and cold temperatures can make the racing more fun and exciting, but it can also make everything more difficult.

The equipment of a high-level track racer consists of 2 wheels, a 26" and a 24".

In the best weather conditions (dry ground and clear weather) the 26" with its narrow and lightweight wheel, is more fluid and faster but more nervous.

The 24” MAD-Race is slightly slower but more stable and as soon as the conditions become a bit more difficult it increases its performance thanks to a safer driving. In fact, with wind and/or rain the 24” wheel achieves higher times and dominates the IUF slalom scene thanks to the features that make it unique: high grip and stability.

In this unicycle you find the high quality that we guarantee for all our unicycles and the optimizations we have carried out to obtain the best results at high-speed. The Mad4One RACE REVOLUTION, developed in 2011 (5 gold medals at the World Championship 2012 in Bressanone - UNICON XVI), and further improved in 2018 (8 gold medals with Niklas Wojtek and Alina Czimek at the World Championship 2018 in South Korea - UNICON XIX), has a specifically designed cranks-hub interface. Why have we moved away in this case from the ISIS concept and therefore from a standard approach? To increase the effectiveness of the force we apply when we push on the pedals, it was necessary to reduce the distance of the feet from the center. To get the maximum results, we developed a hub-crank interface that is less bulky than the standard ISIS one. Like all top-race equipments, also this high performing system requires more care in its maintenance and assembly than normal products. If you've won in your age group and you see the possibility to enter the expert group of finalists, this is your unicycle.

Cranks MAD-Tecno or AGILE?

2016 we introduce our line of forged standard ISIS cranks: the MAD-Tecno. These cranks combine performance and cost very well and are super strong and reliable. 2018 we launch our new type of cranks: the AGILE. They come out of the same aluminum mold of the MAD-Tecno, therefore made of ERGAL AL7075, the aluminum alloy that offers the highest strength and stiffness. The MAD-Tecno are then beveled while the Agile are further milled with different CNC machining that optimize the weight without compromising the strength (they are -30% lighter than the MAD-Tecno). We tried to reduce as much as possible the Q-Factor and we succeeded. In fact, the AGILE are narrower than the ISIS-standards. Their Q-Factor (the distance between the outside of one crank to the outside of the other crank measured at the points of the threaded portion where the pedal axle attaches) has been reduced by 3mm per side, i.e. a total of 6mm. THE MAIN STRENGTHS of the AGILE? STIFFNESS and LIGHTNESS.

How to remove the Tire and the Inner Tube of our Unicycle

There are few and simple steps to do this work in the right way.  Deflate tire completely. Even a small amount of air left in the tube can make it more difficult to get the tire off. For best results press downward on wheel while deflating the tire. Push one bead of tire toward rim center. The tire bead will be pressed tight against rim. Pushing it inwards loosens the bead from the rim. Do this on the same side all around the diameter of the rim.

The Handle Saddle, a new concept of Saddle, super stiff, light and stable

In 2017/18 we designed and tested the first version of the Handle Saddle, and in late 2018 we launched this new and for the unicycle world revolutionary concept of saddle. In the development of the Handle Saddle we have given utmost priority to the concept of "grip", "easy handling" and “freedom of movement”. With a nearly halved weight compared to a traditional saddle, but as rigid and strong as a traditional saddle with a carbon base, compared to which it is still lighter, the Handle Saddle is now available in different versions. In addition to the Handle Saddle for Trial and the one for Flatland & Street, we offer other finishes, each one designed for a specific discipline such as Mountain Unicycling, Race, Distance and soon also for Freestyle. The Handle Saddle size M with silicon grip and without brake is very interesting for speed on track. At high speed, the Handle Saddle enable us to have great control on our unicycle and minimize the lateral oscillation, thanks to the strength we can exert on the saddle. The result is: higher speed and high level of safety, especially when cornering. Of course, those who are used to the traditional saddle will need a specific training period to learn how to use the Handle Saddle at its best on track.

2019 – Our Interviews with the World's best Unicyclists

In 2019 Mad4One interviewed the greatest unicycle racers of all time, each one multiple champion in his specialty. They differs one from the other and come also from different countries all over the world, but they all have one element in common: the passion for unicycling. Whether it's freestylers like Katrine Jensen, Kaito Shoji and Ryan Olfers, great sprinters like Niklas Wojtek, Leonie and Alina Czimek, experts in hockey like the Swiss national Hockey Team, talented urban riders like Pierre Sturny or downhillers like Ben Soja and the most decorated muni-rider Florian Rabensteiner:  they are all among the TOP of the unicycling world, but that's not all. They are also concrete models of passion, discipline and tenacity.

Niklas is one of the greatest Unicyclists in RACE of ever. His results speak for him. The first time Niklas saw a unicycle competition dates back to 1998 when UNICON X took place in Bottrop, his hometown. It was love at first sight, not just for him, but for the entire family. 2000, Niklas is just 7 years old, when he takes part in Germany to his 1st Championship.
He has to date won 14 World Championships, 9 European Championships and set 4 World Records.
