THE MAD4ONE UNICYCLES FOR HOCKEY AND BASKET
In addition to many individual disciplines, unicycling also offers two interesting team sport specialties.
Unicycle field hockey and unicycle basketball require a lot of skills. In addition to the perfect unicycle control, you also need to understand and control the play and the players, anticipating where the ball might go to have the best passing and a powerful and successful hit or basket throw.
In this sport the unicycle is subject to great stress.
Our unicycle hockey line has been developed "on the field", being very well aware of all these situations.
INTRODUCTION
3 FRAMES FOR 3 DIFFERENT PLAYING STYLES
In unicycle hockey theren't should be any need to use the square-shaped frame for freestyle (even the one with a long neck as well) or the frame for flatland. These frames and in particular the freestyle version, are however chosen by several hockey players, who train in One-Foot. But let's go step by step. The first question is: steel or aluminum frame? Mad4One's steel line offers the URC Series 1 frame and the Iron-Mad Freestyle frame both made of CrMo-4130 steel alloy. The aluminum line includes the round version made of AL-7005 T6, the square freestyle version and the flatland version made of AA6069-T6. the choice is very individual and depends on one's own style of play and riding.
THE RIM 46 MM WIDE
A wider rim, provided that the compatibility range is respected, is often advantageous for a series of factors: greater air volume, greater foot print and greater corner grip. With a wider rim the shoulders of the tire become rounder and a bit bigger giving more stability and progressivity when turning. In fact, the lower bending of the tread allows the lateral blocks to come into contact with the ground, that leads to a greater contact surface and therefore more "grip". On the other hand the unicycle that mounts a wider rim loses some agility. Also hier it's your style that determines what works best for you.
THE 24" WHEEL
60% of basketball players prefer 24" wheel. At the moment we unfortunately can't find white tires of this size. However, we are ready to provide you the Basketball unicycle as you wish, without tire. Give us all the details of the unicycle you would like to order (components, colors, etc.), we will quote you the price without the tire.
Few other sport even comes close to hockey in terms of speed. Everything about this sport is fast-paced: the slap shots, the game pace, the players. There’s no time for dozing off in hockey – something is always happening and if you blink, chances are you’ll miss it. Constant action and full control of the unicycle are two of the many features that make hockey unique. Our collection of Hockey unicycles has just what you need. Choose whichever you see fit for you.
... to be honest there's not much to say, the saddle must be comfortable and make you feel secure and stable when you are shooting. When you take a shot you push on the pedals to stop the unicycle and have full control the movement and at the same time you lift your body weight off the saddle. At this moment, if the saddle is too flat, it's likely to move too much.
It’s important that you can rely on an unbreakable seatpost, because in team games falls are very frequent. The Mad4One XXL seatpost is a concrete example of great stiffness and durability. Made from AL-6061-T6 aluminum alloy, forged in one piece and reinforced at the most stressed part, the MAD-XXL is the right choice for heavy duty use. In the design of the Mad4One seatpost XXL and the 3B Double Clamp we've paid great attention to robustness, tightness and solidity. They are the right combination for a formidable hold between seatpost and frame.
Like the XXL seatpost, the one-piece CNC machined 3B double seatpost clamp is an innovative designed and produced by Mad4One. The 3B Double Clamp provides a formidable grip that locks firmly seat tube and frame together.
The unicycle is the result of the choices made by the designer. There are many ways to design a mechanical detail, but only a few of them are the right ones. The weight: it’s for sure important, but if the resulting product is light and weak it's useless. The materials: better material always means longer life, as well as more stiffness and better performance. The Mad4One aluminum frames are built with more performing aluminum alloys than the commonly used AL6061-T6, and the steel ones are made from Cr-Mo 4130 chromium-molybdenum steel, an alloy of steel that guarantees greater load resistance and better tensile strength compared to unalloyed steel. Compatibility: it means freedom for you to update and improve your unicycle as you desire.
Since 2007 we have acquired a high level of technical know-how in the design and manufacture of unicycles and unicycle parts, including wheel building. All our wheels, from 16-inch to 29-inch, that we mount on our unicycles or supply separately as parts, are made by us by hand in our warehouse in Italy. We use high quality components and each wheel is carefully checked before delivery. We build our wheels using 4 cross pattern.
You can mount a 32 or a 46 mm wide rim. Choose whichever you see fit for your style. There are riders who prefer agility and those who love high grip in fast and very inclined curves.
The GS6000 is a mid-size pedal for indoor. It has a high tooth profile to provide great grip, the best among pedals allowed in the gym.
We are often identified for the rich variety of colors and possible combinations we offer, but our main identity is that of design engineers who pay great attention to functionality and stability. Why the colors? Because the unicycle is also fun and passion, if it’s monotonous and without personality what pleasure is it?

If we add the height of the frame to the thickness of the saddle and the length of the cranks, we have our "minimum leg length". Here we are talking about the B-value of our unicycle.
What is the right saddle height? How do I measure my leg length? How do I calculate how long my seat tube should be? These are some of the questions we ask ourselves when we start thinking how to configure our new unicycle.
There are few and simple steps to do it in the right way. Deflate tire completely. Even a small amount of air left in the tube can make it more difficult to get the tire off. For best results press downward on wheel while deflating the tire. Push one bead of tire toward rim center. The tire bead will be pressed tight against rim. Pushing it inwards loosens the bead from the rim. Do this on the same side all around the diameter of the rim.
I have just received my new unicycle and first I carefully read the assembly instructions I found in the box. This information is useful not only for the assembly phase, but also for the correct use and maintenance of my unicycle over time.
When you mount the spokes try to be as accurate as possible, usually I insert the spokes so that only one tread is visible outside of the nipple (See "wheel tensioning instructions" that follow). The spoke holes on the rim are often not centered, they are slightly offset. If the offset is not zero, you must connect the hole with the flange on the same side. This is only not true, if you are cross lacing the wheel (we use this type for freestyle) where the hole on one side is connected with the flange of the opposite side. Do not confuse this cross with the number of spoke crosses we will be doing while building the wheel. ALSO, the holes on the flanges of the hub do line up ...
In regards to wheel building, especially with 19-inch wheels with short spokes, a spoke tensioner does not mean the best wheel build. It is better to have a good spoke wrench (adjuster). *Note that if the rim without the spokes was not straight, there are two ways to build the wheel. The first is to force the straight shape, which means the wheel will have different tensions on the spokes, but will ride smoothly. This is important for racing and road riding, because a round wheel is what matters the most. However, for 19-inch and Muni, where the wheel is being used for jumping and landing, and is prone to crashing, the robustness is the most important thing. Therefore, with wide rims (40-46mm), even tension is more important than a perfect true. In this case you can modify the shape a little, but do not force too much to correct it...
Our unicycle steel frames, we are talking about the URC frames, are made from Cr-Mo 4130 chromium-molybdenum steel, an alloy of steel that guarantees greater load resistance, lower specific weight and better tensile strength compared to unalloyed steel. The simplest steels are iron alloyed with carbon. However, the term "alloy steel" is the standard term referring to steels with other alloying elements added deliberately in addition to the carbon such as e.g.: silicon, manganese or chrome. Therefore it is not sufficient to speak only of aluminum or steel, because there are innumerable aluminum and steel alloys with very different characteristics. The choice of the "right" material is a very important element of the entire frame design. On the internet it is easy to come across very cheap unicycles, but warranty and robustness are unknown and it can happen that you break it before you have even learned to use it. To know more about our frames …
The Mad4One MAD-XXL seatpost is a concrete example of great stiffness and durability. Made from AL-6061-T6 aluminum alloy, forged in one piece and reinforced at the most stressed part, the MAD-XXL is the right choice for heavy duty use. The MAD-XXL can be mounted on any type of saddle with standard fitting and is anodized in the different colors we offer. In combination with the Mad4One 3B Double Clamp our XXL seatpost provides an ultra firm hold on saddle and frame.
Thoughtful details and high quality components optimized for the best performance come together with a stiff, light and super stable frame. The MAD-Hockey unicycles bring you world class-racing performance at an unbeatable value. We have put together the "Mad4one medal table", which we are particularly proud of. It's the list of the best results achieved by riders who have attended the last World Champions riding a Mad4One unicycle.
In 2019 Mad4One interviewed the greatest unicycle racers of all time, each one multiple champion in his specialty. They differs one from the other and come also from different countries all over the world, but they all have one element in common: the passion for unicycling. Whether it's freestylers like Katrine Jensen, Kaito Shoji and Ryan Olfers, great sprinters like Niklas Wojtek, Leonie and Alina Czimek, experts in hockey like the Swiss national Hockey Team, talented urban riders like Pierre Sturny or downhillers like Ben Soja and the most decorated muni-rider Florian Rabensteiner: they are all among the TOP of the unicycling world, but that's not all. They are also concrete models of passion, discipline and tenacity.
Some sports, even though they’re considered “team sports,” are sometimes monopolized by an individual athlete. Although it’s possible for one hockey player to be the superstar of the team, this sport Although it’s possible for one hockey player to be the superstar of the team, this sport makes it impossible for a team to win unless they play together. Everybody needs to be on the same page if things are to work in this sport and that makes it all the better. After all, there’s no “I” in “hockey.”
