What is the perfect saddle for your ride? If you’re considering a new unicycle saddle, it’s likely because the one you’re currently riding on is uncomfortable. Comfort is a common issue, especially among beginners. The first step after identifying your riding position is to understand what type of unicycle you are using. Differences between unicycle types are important to understand how you will use it and help you find the right saddle, according to the length and type of the routes you usually cover with your unicycle or the type of discipline you practice. The comfort of the saddle is definitely subjective, there are saddles for trial, freestyle, long trips .... let's say, for all specialties! For trial, flatland and street the easy handling of the saddle is more important than seat comfort. The saddle is basically used as a "handle" to manage and keep control of the unicycle during advanced tricks. For long rides it is very important that the saddle nose tilt is correctly adjusted, so that we do not slip and rub against the saddle.

GENERAL PRINCIPLES

The saddles are designed to distribute body weight between the buttocks and lower part of the pelvic bone. The weight balance and comfort therefore depend on how the ischial tuberosities rest on the saddle while pedalling. This position depends on various factors: the height of the saddle in relation to the pedals, the shape of the saddle, the tilt of the saddle. These features and parameters are chosen respectively adjusted by the riders according to their personal characteristics.

STANDARD SEATPOST FITMENT

In the drawing below you will find the standard seatpost fitment used for all unicycle saddles currently on the market. There is also another fixing system usually used in low-value products made for the Asian market. If you want to change the saddle and you have a different seatpost fitment, you have to change the seatpost, too. Pay attention to the diameter of the seatpost. Usually it's 22.2 mm but can also be 25.4 or 27.2 mm.

THE TRADITIONAL MAD4ONE SADDLES

Our traditional saddles are available in two versions, Slim and Comfort. The saddle is equipped with rear bumper and, on request, with the front handle. The front handles that we mount on our traditional saddles are completely closed to ensure a lower risk of injury, especially when performing tricks in freestyle, street and flatland.

THE HANDLE SADDLE, A NEW CONCEPT OF SADDLE

2017/18 Mad4One develops and brings to market a new saddle. For the unicycle world it’s for sure a revolutionary concept of seat and usage of the saddle. It’s name is Handle Saddle.

The classic plastic structure with bumper and cushion that in some disciplines still creates bulk and is often not particularly stiff and strong is definitively abandoned.

First priority is given to the concept of "grip", "easy handling" and "freedom of movement". The Handle Saddle weighs half of a traditional saddle, but offers the same stiffness and robustness of a traditional saddle with carbon base, compared to which it is still lighter.

The Mad4one Handle Saddle is available in the following versions:

BASE - SIZE S - SIZE M - SIZE L  with the MAD-EXTENSION.

THE HANDLE SADDLE, EXTREMELY LIGHT AND STABLE!

You are free to finish the Handle Saddle and the MAD-Extension as you wish and need or you can choose one of the finishes we propose, each one designed for a specific use, but always with the concept "we will finish your Handle Saddle together". Cushion, cover, loop protection, Extension will be made according to your needs.  This is our concept of "Just in Time".

The short base is mainly used for URBAN Handle Saddle (central cushion and free front and rear handle), but there are also several riders who love it with complete cushion. The Base S was the first we designed and produced and the finish we developed was pointed straight at the Urban riders. Taking into consideration the use of the saddle in these disciplines we developed a cushion not particularly thin in the center (80mm). Both Base M and L have been further refined and the actual version is 12 cm narrower than Base S.

THE HANDLE SADDLE FOR THE URBAN WORLD

The Handle Saddle was born for the Urban world, where the saddle is mainly used with the hands and where the fast and safe handling are an important plus.

The double open loop with no-slip finish has the same diameter of a bicycle handlebar, hence the name "Handle Saddle".

The Handle Saddle offers a great comfort and saddle handling that you cannot get from traditional saddles.

With Urban saddles the seating comfort is reduced to a minimum.

THE HANDLE SADDLE WITH FULL CUSHION

Then we made the Handle Saddles with full cushion. One of the aspects we gave more attention to is the comfort of seating.

Not everyone uses the unicycle the same way, and not everyone has the same anatomical shape.

To meet all the different needs we have designed both a narrow and a wider cushion. Even the cut out ressure relief is different. These two cushions can be mounted on all BASES.

In 2022 we develop a new version: the Handle Saddle for Hockey.
But that's not all. In the future we will have new cushions and Base designed for freestyle ... but this project is still in the development phase.
